6 good reasons to include a charity in your will
The renewal of inheritance law is creating positive movement in the industry. For example, it appears that since its modernization in September 2018, more and more people are making wills. The new inheritance law means that people have more freedom to arrange their inheritance as they see fit. As a result, they are also taking more initiative themselves to draw up a will as well as deviate from the standard regulations.
Every day, 5 Belgians include a charity in their wills
This allows people with children to freely dispose of half of their assets. So they get the opportunity to leave a larger portion than before to a person, organization or charity of their choice. And that is also what more people are doing as a result of the reform of inheritance law. For example, every day as many as 5 Belgians include a charity in their will. We can only applaud this wonderful gesture. And they have their good reasons for doing so.
Are you thinking about making a will yourself? We'd like to give you some good reasons to support a charity like the Red Cross by including it in your will.
I include a charity in my will ...
- Because you contribute to a better world. A world in which you can help make a difference, whatever charity you choose and whatever amount you leave behind.
- Because bequeathing to charity is fiscally advantageous. Since July 1, 2021, bequests to charity have been tax-free in the Flemish Region. In concrete terms, this means that when you leave something or donate something to our organization, we no longer have to pay tax on it. This means that everything you give to us can be used entirely to help people in need.
- because you are ensuring help for future generations, even when you are no longer around. By doing so, you ensure that your chosen charity can continue his or her good work.
- Because you are passing on your shared values far into the future.
- because you know what happens to your money, in complete transparency. You are also assured that it is spent carefully, where it is needed.
- Because it makes you feel good yourself. Because doing good for another person makes you feel good. And that's heartwarming.
