An internship where you get to know your target group in a special setting and at a unique location? This is possible during the WOW vacations of Red Cross Flanders! For more than 10 years we have been organizing vacations for people who, due to their disability, illness or advanced age, have difficulty going on vacation without supervision. The vacation guests are cared for and accompanied by volunteers during these vacation weeks. For several years, students have also been helping, as part of a nursing or care internship, to give our guests an unforgettable vacation. In this way they experience this target group in a completely different way!
Cooperation with educational institutions
In order to make good arrangements, Belgian Red Cross-Flanders has a cooperation agreement with several educational institutions within the framework of these WOW vacations.

Welcome as an intern at WOW vacations
What do we offer you?
Before the vacation week begins, you will receive the travel documents with the necessary information from us. During the vacation you will receive the necessary support. You can also count on the support of a strong volunteer team.
What do we expect from you?
You are at least 18 years old and in good physical and mental health.
In addition, you have a correct and positive attitude towards guests, your internship supervisor, volunteers, external partners and the organization.
You are available for a full week.
Nursing/Medicine students
Together with the care volunteers, you will be responsible for the daily care and supervision of the guests. The nurses present are responsible for nursing operations and will also involve and guide you in this as a trainee.
Furthermore, you will help guests with meals, washing and dressing, getting in and out of bed, using the toilet and moving around.
You will also accompany guests on excursions and individual outings or activities.
Healthcare Education Students
Together with the care volunteers, you will be responsible for the daily care and supervision of the guests. Depending on the objectives within your care training, we will look in advance at which activities fit into this internship week. The present nurses and the vacation manager will support and guide you.
Furthermore, you will help the guests with meals, washing and dressing, getting in and out of bed, using the toilet and moving around.
You will also accompany guests on excursions and individual outings or activities.
Domain Polderwind and Hotel Middelpunt
Domain Polderwind is located in Zuienkerke, in the middle of the polders, between historic Bruges and the seaside town of Blankenberge. At the center of this domain is a large pond and on its banks stands the four-star hotel of Belgian Red Cross-Flanders, which opened in 2018.
Hotel Middelpunt is located in Middelkerke, near the center and 600m from the North Sea beach. The hotel has been a three-star hotel since 2018. Hotel Middelpunt is operated by a people with a distance to the labor market and is therefore also a social employment project. Both hotels are the start to enjoy and experience, with all comfort and pleasant recreation. They are therefore ideal places for WOW vacations because from here we make trips to the coast, Bruges and various attractions. Our guests come here to experience a relaxing vacation without restrictions. With the help of many indispensable caring volunteers!
