Providing immediate assistance in disasters
Providing disaster relief is a basic mission of the Red Cross. Thanks to our experience and expertise, the government has officially designated us as a partner. When something happens, we immediately spring into action to help. One of our important tasks is to provide medical assistance to the victims.
Immediate response to disasters
During a disaster, ordinary emergency services do not always have sufficient resources. Our SITs (Rapid Intervention Team) immediately jump in to help them. They bring all the equipment needed to quickly set up a medical post: inflatable tents, lights, stretcher bars, medical equipment and emergency medication.
It is important to administer initial care as soon as possible. This is done under the direction of doctors and nurses. We continuously monitor the condition of the victims. After the initial care, their condition remains at least stable during or while waiting for their transfer to the hospital. Again, we as the Red Cross are responsible for this.

Interventions by our relief service
On average, relief service receives 3 alarms per week. They then always check what kind of situation it is and make a quick assessment as to whether our people should go to the scene. The reasons for an alarm change slightly each season. In the summer, for example, it is about water in traffic jams or when people are stuck in stalled trains.
The relief service often receives pre-alarms as well. Consider an incident in a business, a ruptured gas line or a fire or smoke development in a large building such as an apartment, rest home or hotel.
Your help is essential
Our volunteers are trained to help in the best way possible. They give their all to save lives. But they can't do that without financial support. That's why your help is essential.
