Don't miss your tax certificate!

You enjoy tax credits

Donations to Belgian Red Cross-Flanders are tax deductible. If you donate at least 40 euros on an annual basis to Belgian Red Cross-Flanders, you are entitled to a tax certificate. Your certificate entitles you to a 45% tax reduction on the donated amount. You will receive your certificate annually in March the year after your donation(s). You add this to your tax return. The Red Cross notifies the government who received a tax certificate.

Your tax certificate automatically in your tax return?

If the IRS can identify you with 100% certainty, your tax certificate will automatically appear in your tax return. Only an individual's information can be automatically linked to your tax return. Do you support us through a joint account and are known to us as a couple? Then please provide the full first name, last name, address, date of birth and, for the sake of completeness, the National Register number of only one individual.

Do you have a question?

Do you have a practical question about your tax certificate? Below are the answers to the questions people often ask us. Is your question not among them? Then send an e-mail to schenken@rodekruis.be or call 015/443 443.

1. What should I do with my tax certificate?

Use the attestation to complete your tax return. You keep the tax attestation you receive at the disposal of the tax authorities. You do not need to attach it to your (written) tax return.

2. Where do I enter my gift on my tax return?

Written declaration

Enter in box 'X, A'* using the code 1394 the amount of gifts you made in the previous year for which you received an attestation.

Tax-on-web

If you use Tax-on-web then in most cases your gift is automatically entered on your tax return. If not then add your gift amount in the 'X, A'* box, code 1394.

*Excluding changes to the 2016 tax return that have not yet been communicated to us.

3. For which fiscal year will I receive an attestation?

A tax certificate applies to donations of minimum €40 received by Belgian Red Cross-Flanders during the previous calendar year. For this, we look at the date on which the amount is effectively in our account.

4. Who receives the tax certificate?

The tax certificate is issued in the name and address of the person transferring the gift. Only donations from individuals can be automatically charged in the tax return. The tax authorities must be able to identify the donor with 100% certainty on the basis of full first name, surname, address, date of birth and, for the sake of completeness, the National Register number. Only then will your tax certificate automatically appear in your tax return.

Are you making a gift as a couple? Then enter the gift amount from your tax certificate manually in your tax return.

5. Name not spelled correctly

Was your name not spelled correctly? Report it to us and we'll send you an updated tax certificate.

6. Incorrect address information / moved.

The tax certificate is issued by name. Are your address details incorrect or have they changed due to a move? Your tax certificate is still usable, you do not need to receive a new one.

Please provide us with your correct address in advance so we can update your information for future correspondence.

7. Death

By law, the tax certificate cannot be placed in another name upon death. If you have a joint return, you can still use the certificate for your tax return. Please inform us of the death for future correspondence.

Notification of death

8. Will I receive a tax receipt for my fundraiser?

Collections (e.g. an auction, a sale, an activity or event) do not entitle you to a tax certificate. A tax-deductible gift is a sum of money transferred to Belgian Red Cross-Flanders with no quid pro quo for the donor.

If you forward an amount consisting of individual deposits higher than €40, with no counter value, please provide the contact details of the various donors to Belgian Red Cross-Flanders so they can receive their tax certificate separately.

The person transferring a collective fundraiser will not receive a tax certificate.

9. Why is my tax certificate not entered in Tax-on-Web?

Only when the tax authorities can identify you with 100% certainty will your tax certificate automatically appear in your tax return. Even if you are known to us as a couple (e.g. because you make donations with a joint account number) and not as an individual, the tax certificate will not appear in Tax-on-Web. Only the data of an individual can be automatically linked to your tax return.

Do you support us through a joint account and are known to us as a couple? Please provide us with one individual's full first name, last name, address, date of birth, and for completeness' sake, the National Register number for proper allocation of the tax certificate.
