Two years of conflict in Ukraine: this is how it helps Belgian Red Cross-Flanders
After two years of armed conflict in Ukraine, the situation remains of particular concern, with severe damage to infrastructure and a continuing need for humanitarian assistance. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders has been working to support the Ukrainian people in a variety of ways:
- Reception of displaced persons: Belgian Red Cross-Flanders organized transit shelter at its Ariane emergency shelter in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe and the emergency village for Ukrainian displaced persons in Mechelen. A total of 13,186 people were received.
- Financial Aid: More than €13 million has been raised to support humanitarian aid in Ukraine, with funds used for emergency supplies, medical personnel and financial assistance, among other things.
- Sending out staff: two experienced project managers from Belgian Red Cross-Flanders were dispatched to support Ukrainian Red Cross operations.
- Healthcare: We supported medical by purchasing generators and providing medical equipment to hospitals and providing mobile primary care and home nursing.
- Water and sanitation: Assistance was provided to 14.4 million people by providing drinking water and hygiene products.
- emergency relief: Financial assistance was provided to 813,000 people and 13.7 million others received emergency relief supplies.
- Shelter: Belgian Red Cross-Flanders supported the implementation of repair works to damaged houses and hospitals in eastern Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Red Cross continues to work tirelessly to provide assistance to the population, with a three-year action plan to reach 12 million people with humanitarian assistance and support 5 million people in their recovery. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders continues to support its Ukrainian colleagues to achieve these goals.
