Homage to our heroes

Last summer, seven emergency workers from Belgian Red Cross-Flanders were victims of severe violence during a party in Houthalen-Helchteren as they tried to provide assistance. Three volunteers had to be taken to the emergency room. The verdict: broken ribs, a stomach trauma, bruises and two volunteers declared incapacitated.
Nevertheless, the volunteers were ready to take care of the aggressors who were injured as well. An act of courage, professionalism and incredible dedication. Last Friday we honored their commitment, courage and strength.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case: this year we already noted several cases of aggression and vandalism against our volunteers who volunteer. Yet they remain committed day and night to helping others.
Violence towards emergency workers is unacceptable. Thank you to all our volunteers for continuing to dedicate themselves anyway!
