- To fulfill our legal obligations as a licensed blood establishment based on public health reasons, particularly the provision of sufficient safe(er) blood, plasma and platelets, including informing and contacting you about donating blood, plasma and platelets.
- For scientific research, in the context of transfusion, for epidemiological purposes or for the purpose of gaining a better understanding of medical conditions and their treatment, for internal validations and to optimize and report on business processes related to its public service mission as a blood establishment.
- In the context of complaint and dispute management. This is done based on our legitimate interest to handle a complaint or dispute and to safeguard our rights and interests.
We provide your data to processors providing support services such as external data platform and portal, call centers, SMS and mailing services, software providers, to hospitals/doctors in an encrypted manner, to the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products as part of their hemovigilance and monitoring authority, to accredited laboratories with whom we collaborate.
Your data will be kept in accordance with legal requirements, in particular for a period of 30 years and a maximum of 40 years.

- To be able to organize the training for which you register. This is done based on the execution of the agreement that arises with you to organize the training.
- Be able to issue participant certificates, licenses or diplomas. This may be as part of the agreement with you or based on a legal provision when you are taking a government-recognized course for which a certificate must be provided.
- Invite you to follow-up courses, refresher courses or other training that may interest you. This is done on the basis of our legitimate interest, namely to ensure the operation and continuity of our organization, as a helper to the government.
- Global communication about and recruitment for our other activities. I am looking for relatives, missing as a result of war or other events
The Flemish Community of the Belgian Red Cross and Belgian Red Cross-Flanders Internationaal VZW, Motstraat 40, 2800 Mechelen ("RKV") will process your personal data as joint controllers.
RKV does this for the fulfillment of the humanitarian task entrusted to the Red Cross, being , (1) tracing relatives where contact was lost as a result of conflicts, tensions and/or natural disasters; (2) restoring and maintaining contact with relatives and, (3) informing about the Belgian procedure of family reunification to refugees and subsidiary protected persons. This is done for reasons of important public interest. Moreover, this is necessary to protect the vital interests of the requested person.
RKV provides your data to processors who provide support services such as software suppliers and archiving services. Only when it is necessary to track someone down or reunite family members, RKV also provides your data to
- The International Committee of the Red Cross;
- other National Red Cross Societies within the global collaborative network of Restoring Family Links;
- authorities and aid organizations, such as refugee camp coordinators, among others. In this context, RKV, as part of the Belgian Red Cross, concluded a protocol regulating the exchange of personal data with the Immigration Office in the context of restoring family links, which can be found here.
RKV only makes your data available to National Red Cross Societies, governments and/or relief organizations based outside the European Union when this is necessary for important reasons of public interest. The transfer to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Switzerland is done under the adequacy decision of July 26, 2000 of the European Commission.
