Learn first aid as a school

Would your school like to teach your students or teachers more about first aid? Belgian Red Cross-Flanders ! We offer a wide range of training courses designed to enable you to apply first aid immediately in school settings—both to learn first aid yourself and to train your students.

In certain fields of study, students are required to have a certificate in "life-saving techniques for infants and young children" before beginning their internship. Do you have any questions about this? Please contact onderwijs@rodekruis.be.

Train the Trainer

As a teacher, do you want to learn how to inform your students about first aid in case of accidents? Then we at the Red Cross can help too. Depending on the age of your target group, we offer a different training with a focus on didactics at first aid. Below you can find the overview of training courses.

First aid teacher Education

What will you learn?
You will learn everything you need to teach your pupils and students first aid. You will need to work through the theory of the First Aid and Helper courses on an independent basis in a self-study course before the start of the course.

In practical terms, this means you need to prepare before the course begins. You will study the first aid material on your own using the book *Help! First Aid for Everyone* and the course textbook. You can purchase both books through the online store using your school’s login credentials.

It is an intensive course that will give you the necessary baggage to give quality first aid to your students.

In the first part of the course, we immerse you in first aid techniques and first aid content from Belgian Red Cross-Flanders and you take a practical exam. In the second part, we zoom in on teaching first aid to your target students or pupils through microteaching. When you successfully complete the training, you will be certified and can call yourself 'First Aid Teacher Education'. This allows you to organize the courses 'First Aid' (basic course), 'Helper' (advanced course) and 'Resuscitation and defibrillation' for pupils or students of your own educational institute and to hand out your certificates!

All these courses are suitable for pupils or students aged sixteen and over, or who turn sixteen in the calendar year in which the course starts. To the students of the second grade you can award the certificate "Junior Helper". In addition, you also get access to all the didactic material of Belgian Red Cross-Flanders. Together we work on the first aid and resuscitation skills.
