Belgian Red Cross-Flanders

Belgian Red Cross-Flanders consists of two entities, both recognized by the government:

  • the Flemish Community of the Belgian Red Cross, an institution of public utility with legal personality under the law of March 30, 1891, with its registered office at Papenvest 78, 1000 Brussels, registered with the CBE with number 0406.729.809; and
  • Belgian Red Cross-Flanders, a sui generis entity with legal personality under the decree of April 26, 2024, with registered office at Motstraat 40, 2800 Mechelen, registered in the CBE with the number 1012.657.135.

Both entities are located at Motstraat 40, 2800 Mechelen.

The following non-profit associations and public utility foundations are associated with Belgian Red Cross-Flanders and carry out certain activities jointly with it. They all have their registered office at Motstraat 40, 2800 Mechelen, with the exception of Rodekruishotel vzw. The latter has its registered office at Polderwind 4, 8377 Zuienkerke.

Recognition as an NGO

Blood supply

We have been recognized as a blood establishment by Ministerial Decree of November 30, 2017 (NIHDI No. 7-95009-03 - 98-1001), as a clinical biology laboratory (NIHDI No. 8-12650-16-998) and as an intermediate structure (within the meaning of the Human Body Materials Act of December 19, 2008). The supervisory authorities are the FPS Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment and the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP).

Assistance

the Belgian Red Cross has been appointed by the government to manage the number 105 (central dispatching and non-urgent patient transportation). the Belgian Red Cross is supervised by the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (www.bipt.be).

the Belgian Red Cross is appointed by the government to provide assistance in the event of disasters, in particular the provision of particularly urgent medical assistance and urgent psychosocial intervention, within the framework of the emergency and intervention plans drawn up by the government. the Belgian Red Cross is supervised by the FPS Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment(https://www.health.belgium.be/nl).

We are recognized as a national training institution and specialize in the topic of first aid. The supervisory authority is the Department of Culture, Youth and Media of the Flemish Government(www.sociaalcultureel.be/volwassenen/index.aspx).

Social activities

We are recognized as a nationally organized youth association. The supervisory authority is the Department of Culture, Youth and Media of the Flemish Government(www.sociaalcultureel.be/jeugd/index.aspx).

We are recognized as a social tourism association. The supervisory authority is Tourism Flanders(www.toerismevlaanderen.be).

We are recognized as an organization with a specific mission, i.e. special library for the long-term sick and persons residing in a rest home, a home for the elderly or a hospital. The supervisory authority is the Department of Culture, Youth and Media of the Flemish Government(https://www.vlaanderen.be/cjm/nl/cultuur/bovenlokale-cultuur/bibliotheekbeleid-vlaanderen).

We receive some of the applicants for international protection in Belgium on behalf of the federal government in application of the law of January 12, 2017 on the reception of asylum seekers and certain other categories of foreigners. The supervisory authority is the Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers(www.fedasil.be). All staff members within the reception structures for asylum seekers are bound by the deontological code established by ministerial decree on December 19, 2013.
