Organization of return transportation

Please ensure that you always have a supply of yellow/black plastic bags and seals in your hospital blood bank, necessary for the return of blood products cf. the procedure described below. You must order these bags and seals under "Accessories" in the "Normal Order" request screen of ROOS. ROOS will deliver these bags free of charge with your next normal delivery of blood products.

The prescribed procedure for return transportation differs depending on the risk of leakage of the product to be returned.

Return procedure in case of products with (imminent) leakage

Please prepare the products to be returned very carefully for transport to RKV:

  • 1st step: place the blood products in the leak-proof bag that RKV will automatically send you in case your request for return of non-conforming product is authorized. Seal this bag carefully cf. the instructions for use.
  • 2nd step: place the sealed leak-proof bag in a yellow/black plastic bag. Seal this bag with an orange seal as well.
  • 3rd step: place the sealed yellow/black bag with the now 4-layer packed return products in an emptied exam box into which erythrocyte concentrate or platelet concentrate has just been delivered by normal delivery of blood products. This return transport is at the expense of RKV.
  • 4th step: place the completed and RKV-authorized ' Return Request Form' in the document zipper bag, and attach the document zipper bag to the outside of the exam box using a seal through the lid closure of the exam box.

Return procedure in case of products without (imminent) leakage (recall)

  • 1st step: place the non-leaking products - to be returned due to expired, recalled or positive DAT - in a yellow/black plastic bag.
  • 2nd step: then place the sealed yellow/black plastic bag in an emptied exam box in which erythrocyte concentrate or platelet concentrate was delivered just before through the normal delivery of blood products.
  • 3rd step: in the case of erythrocyte concentrate with positive DAT, place the RKV-authorized 'Return Request Form' in the document zip bag, and attach the document zip bag to the outside of the exam box by means of a seal through the lid closure of the exam box. In the case of non-leaking expired or recalled products, attaching a document to the exam box to be returned is not applicable.
  • 4th step: the exam box with returned products will be returned cf. the standard procedures for 'Normal Delivery' and for 'Acceptance on Delivery to Hospital' to RKV via the other emptied exam boxes, so that the return transport of the returned blood products is at the expense of RKV.
