The term "ad hoc delivery" refers to the delivery of blood products by means of a transport to be requested ad hoc by either CRD or the hospital in fulfillment of a specific ad hoc order, of an order of patient-specific blood products or of compromised blood products.
Unlike normal deliveries, this ad hoc organized transport is not performed through IHcT's fixed hospital transport loop runs and these ad hoc transports are in the name of and at the expense of the hospital.
Only in case of an ad hoc order with an urgency Level Low from a hospital with agreed platelet supply for delivery on Monday morning (Saturday or Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday), RKV will organize the transport of the platelets in the name and for the account of RKV.
In the case of ad hoc deliveries, the procedures 'Taking in Receipt at Issue at Belgian Red Cross-Flanders' and 'Arrangements for Return of Exam Boxes Originating from an Ad Hoc Transport of Blood Products' always apply.
Upon issue in RKV of blood products requiring ad hoc transport from RKV to the hospital, RKV ensures the validated packaging and conditioning of the blood products in such a way that - insofar as the transport does not take longer than 3h and takes place at an ambient temperature between minimum 15°C and maximum 25°C - the integrity and traceability of the labile blood derivatives is guaranteed during ad hoc transport. Validation data can be retrieved at dienstvoorhetbloed@rodekruis.be.
As has been common practice for many years, RKV sends one or more digital delivery files (1 file per exam box) electronically to the hospital with each blood product delivery.
In addition, a printed delivery slip indicating the products (blood products with any accessories and/or a temperature probe) is present in the document zip pocket attached to the exam box.
For the required return of the exam boxes and conditioning materials, the hospital may use an arrangement between RKV and IHcT to return the exam boxes to RKV as soon as possible. Please return the exam boxes including àll conditioning materials and other accessories (e.g. dividers) to the RKV depot of origin at the next passage of IHcT in your hospital blood bank.
