Frequently asked questions plaster sales

Here are the answers to frequently asked questions regarding the Plaster Action from Belgian Red Cross-Flanders.

General

When is the Band-Aid campaign?

Belgian Red Cross-Flanders ' Pleister Action 2025 runs from April 24 to May 8. During these two weeks you can buy the exclusive Red Cross patch through our volunteers, at selected local merchants or online at koopdepleister.be.

Why should I support my local chapter?

When you buy a patch, you directly support the Red Cross' operation in your area.

With that €10, our Red Cross volunteers can invest in, among other things:

  • ambulances
  • intervention clothing
  • teaching materials for first aid training

But their efforts go even further: they also pay visits to lonely seniors in care centers or assist where help is needed most.

Why were the stickers replaced with a patch?

We deliberately chose a new approach with a real Red Cross plaster instead of the classic sticker. The patch symbolizes what the Red Cross stands for: helping where needed.

With this renewed approach, we also want to warm new generations to support their local Red Cross operation.

And the most important thing remains the same: all proceeds go to your Red Cross chapter.

Why does the patch cost €10?

For €10 you not only buy a useful band-aid, but more importantly, you make a direct investment in the Red Cross' work in your neighborhood.

With that €10, our Red Cross volunteers can invest in, among other things:

  • ambulances
  • intervention clothing
  • teaching materials for first aid training

Every band-aid counts. And every euro fully benefits the Red Cross in your neighborhood.

Where can I buy the patch?

Isn't selling at intersections or parking lots dangerous?

Can I also buy the patch online?

You choose which Red Cross branch you want to support - and just like a street purchase, all proceeds go to their operation in your neighborhood.

Convenient, fast and inclusive!

How long has the Band-Aid been in existence?

The Band-Aid will be in its third edition in 2025, but its tradition goes back much further. How it all began? In the 1950s, the road network in Belgium was greatly expanded with more and more highways. And in those days, when there was no official driving license, this did not always end well. The number of accidents rose and the Red Cross placed roadside aid stations. To finance this extra expense, volunteers first started selling pennants that drivers could hang on the antenna of their cars. Starting in 1961, these became vignettes, and later stickers. Thus was born the tradition of selling these symbols of solidarity at intersections - and today they have become patches .

I want to buy a band-aid but don't have cash. Can I pay by mobile phone?

If you buy directly from a volunteer, ask if mobile payment is possible.

Is mobile payment not possible locally? No problem! You can also buy the patch online at koopdepleister.be.

I have a complaint about my purchased patch. Where can I go?

If something is wrong with your patch or if you have experienced an (allergic) reaction, please contact us at schenken@rodekruis.be. We will be happy to help you.

Does the patch meet all quality standards?

Yes, the plaster complies with the European Directive on Medical Devices and has the required CE mark.

The packaging meets hygienic standards for processing and sale and can be recycled afterwards via the PMD bag. Thanks to the ziplock closure, you can store the plasters neatly if you have one left over.

Although the packaging is UV-resistant, this is not true of the plaster itself. Exposure to heat can cause the adhesive to dissolve, so we recommend keeping the plaster away from direct sunlight, such as not on the car dashboard.

Is the Red Cross patch hypoallergenic?

Yes, the patch is hypoallergenic, meaning that it is specially designed to be less likely to cause allergic reactions. However, this does not guarantee that it is allergy-resistant. People with allergies are advised to test the patch on their own first to make sure there is no reaction.

Why one long patch? Aren't smaller band-aids more convenient?

We opted for a longer band-aid because it is actually more convenient for different types of injuries. The injuries you use a band-aid for vary in size. With the long plaster, you can cut off a piece yourself and thus always have the right size.

Why is the patch white and not printed?

We chose to keep the patch white so that it is suitable for young and old. After all, not everyone wants to walk around with a drawing on their arm. In addition, the lack of printing ensures that the plaster guarantees hypoallergenic properties. This prevents possible allergic reactions caused by dyes.
