International aid
Red Cross operates worldwide, providing assistance in countries that need it. Each country is different. That is why Belgian Red Cross-Flanders always cooperates with the local Red Cross or Red Crescent Society. They know the language, customs and sensitivities of the local community. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders supports their projects with our science-based expertise and financial support.
emergency relief
A deadly earthquake, a devastating flood ... Red Cross is immediately on the scene to spring into action and provide emergency relief . Faster and more efficiently than anyone else.
In the event of a disaster, local Red Cross workers provide immediate assistance. If they deem it necessary, they can call on our global network: Belgian Red Cross-Flanders provides financial support, purchase and transport relief supplies, or a special intervention team.
After a disaster, Red Cross remains on site to assist in long-term recovery.
Safe water and sanitation
Belgian Red Cross-Flanders helps build proper water and sanitation facilities. In addition to repair and installation, Red Cross goes door to door educating people about the importance of safe water, sanitation and hygiene. This is how we help prevent a lot of diseases, even in the long term.
First aid is important
In Belgium, when an emergency occurs, an ambulance is at the door in just a few minutes. In countries where there is no doctor immediately nearby, there is a need in both rural and urban areas for people with knowledge of first aid. That's why Belgian Red Cross-Flanders helps local Red Cross societies better train more people at first aid. With adapted techniques and guidelines per country.
Evidence-Based Aid
The quality and effectiveness of aid provision is very important to us. That is why we are a member of Evidence Aid, an international initiative that strives for evidence-based aid. Specifically, it means that we critically and systematically monitor what works and what does not work.
