Reduce risk

The more vulnerable a population is, the worse the consequences of a disaster are. That is why we try to make people more resilient and better prepared for potential disasters.

Disaster Prevention

Prevention measures can help prevent a natural disaster. For example, by building dams or dikes against flooding, and earthquake-resistant houses. This is primarily a task for the government and less so for relief organizations.

Disaster Management

Not all natural disasters can be prevented. But through disaster management, we can try to mitigate their impact. For example, by choosing drought-resistant crops, or by planting mangrove bushes to reduce the impact of floods. We are very active around disaster management in areas affected by disasters every year.

Disaster Preparedness

During and immediately after a disaster, it is the people from the local community who provide help first. So it is important that they know how to respond quickly and properly during disasters. Together with the government, we help the population prepare for disasters. For example, by organizing disaster plans and evacuation drills, by teaching rescue techniques and first aid.
