Our Projects

A deadly earthquake, a devastating flood ... The bad news is that disasters can happen anywhere in the world. The good news is that Red Cross is almost everywhere. This allows us to immediately spring into action on the ground and provide emergency relief . Faster and more efficiently than anyone else.

Water, sanitation and hygiene in Burundi

The further a family has to walk for safe water, the more likely they are to have to drink contaminated water and get sick. There is plenty of water in Burundi, but it is not always available in a hygienic way. In Burundi's cholera belt, people are affected by cholera and diarrhea several times a year. However, these diseases are easily preventable.

Safe water

We are committed to improving water, sanitation and hygiene. In Burundi, we take this up by restoring or building wells and promoting good hygiene. The focus is on improving access to potable water and sanitation facilities: toilets, washing facilities and dishwashing platforms. We are working closely with local communities in this effort.

Jeannette Habonimana, mother of five children:

Since the Red Cross provided potable water, my family has not been sick. The Red Cross has given us potable water. Now it is up to us to make sure it continues to work. Because a population that is sick cannot move forward.

This project has been financially supported by Province of Antwerp since 2016.
